Danielle Gibson joined Gujarat Giants but seven England players, including captain Heather Knight, top-order batter Maia Bouchier and fast bowler Lauren Filer, went unsold in the 2025 Women’s Premier League auction.

Seamer Lauren Bell, batters Sophia Dunkley and Paige Scholfield and leg-spinner Sarah Glenn also missed out on deals for the T20 competition in India.

Seamer Gibson was the only England player to secure a deal, joining the Gujarat Giants for £28,000.

Bouchier was overlooked on the day she marked her England Test debut with a superb 124-ball century against South Africa in Bloemfontein.

Twenty-nine players were vying for a maximum of five overseas spots still available as the eight WPL franchises finalised their squads for next year’s tournament.

Places were taken by Deandra Dottin (West Indies), Nadine de Klerk (South Africa), Sarah Bryce (Scotland) and Alana King (Australia), who went to Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and UP Warriorz respectively.

There will still be England interest in the 2025 WPL, however, with Sophie Ecclestone (UP Warriorz), Nat Sciver-Brunt (Mumbai Indians), Alice Capsey (Delhi Capitals) and Kate Cross (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) retained after the 2024 season.

Danni Wyatt-Hodge also joined Royal Challengers Bengaluru from UP Warriorz for £27,400 ahead of the auction.

The dates for the 205 WPL have not yet been announced but the tournament is likely to begin in late January at the earliest.
