It took over 20 years, but Warner Bros. is finally doing it: on Friday, they announced their plans to give the Teen Titans a live-action movie. Ana Noguiera, who’s already written Supergirl: World of Tomorrow, is on deck to do the impossible and bring the teenage superhero team to cinematic life. Previously, the Titans have dabbled in both ive-action and movies, albeit separately: Titans wrapped its four-season run just last year, and Teen Titans Go to the Movies! is their only cinematic incarnation period.
The Teen Titans have always been well-regarded to one degree or another back in the day, but the 2003 Cartoon Network series made them A-listers, at least to the general public. The five-person team of Robin, Beast Boy, Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg was incredibly popular and folks came to love that incarnation. But with the New 52, things took a weird swerve with the team: Cyborg and Starfire got pulled from the roster to hang out with other heroes (and sport erm, controversial new looks), while the other three were stuck in a largely forgettable Teen Titans book. Things have improved from Rebirth onwards, but the comics Titans have largely spent the past decades treading water.
As with any superhero team making the jump to the silver screen, you have to wonder who’s going to be on the team. Some of these may be no-brainers—you can reasonably figure Raven and Beast Boy at the very least will be members of the team. Others are bigger question marks: we know Damian Wayne’s going to star in the Brave & the Bold movie for Batman, and not only was he leading the Titans for several years in the comics, he was part of the team in several animated films like Justice League vs. Teen Titans and Teen Titans: The Judas Contract. Similarly, you have to wonder if Xolo Maridueña’s Blue Beetle will pop up here—he was part of the team in the both the pre-New 52 comics and the same animated flicks Damian was in. Not to mention, there’s a good amount of new-ish comic faces like Stitch and Red Canary who could pop up here as well.
Let us know in the comments below who you think (or want) to appear in the Teen Titans movie. Alternatively, tell us if you think this movie is even going to be made—we’ve got plenty of reason to be skeptical, after all.
