Walmart Just Recalled Frozen Item Sold Nationwide

Estimated read time 2 min read

There’s an active recall on frozen chicken empanadas sold at Walmart locations nationwide, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). This is due to misbranding and an undeclared allergen.

The Bettergoods-branded Chicken Curry Empanadas are affected by this recall. Recalled boxes have a printed best-by date of “05/21/26” or “05/22/26” and contain establishment number P33967. This recall is following four consumer complaints that the packages may have been misbranded and may actually contain Apple Cinnamon Empanadas instead. This is concerning for those with dairy allergies as the apple empanadas may contain milk whereas the chicken empanadas do not.

Check your freezer for the recalled product, and if your frozen empanadas match the above information, dispose of them or return to your local Walmart for a refund. Those that consume the recalled product that are allergic to dairy may experience a reaction as severe as anaphylaxis, including symptoms like hives, vomiting, stomach cramps, diarrhea, tightness of the throat, trouble breathing or cardiac arrest. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms after eating the affected empanadas, call 911 immediately.
