Vitamix Wants Consumers to Repair Faulty Blender Parts After Major Recall

Estimated read time 2 min read

Vitamix blenders are being recalled after dozens of reports of injuries caused by the powerful blender’s containers and blade bases. In total, the brand is recalling more than 570,000 blender parts. Although the blenders themselves appear to be safe to use, only the faulty parts appear to pose a hazard.

The Vitamix Ascent is one of two series with faulty parts currently being recalled for safety.

Last week, the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission released a notice recalling Vitamix Ascent and Venturist Series blending containers and blade bases noting that “the containers can separate from the blade base, exposing the blades, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.”  As of now, the issue seems to be contained to 8-ounce and 20-ounce containers.

The Venturist series is also thought to include faulty parts that Vitamix is encouraging consumers to repair themselves.

The recall follows more than two dozen reports of lacerations caused by the exposed blades, a result of the blade base and containers separating without notice. Faulty blade bases and blending containers may have been sold separately, according to the CPSC website’s recall post

As of this writing, no refunds or replacements will be issued for defective parts. Rather, those in possession of Ascent and Venturist blenders “should immediately stop using the recalled 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases, and contact Vitamix for a repair kit, consisting of a protective plastic shroud to attach over the blade base and additional instructional labels.”

“Vitamix’s top priority is the safety of its customers. To ensure Vitamix has a well-built product, Vitamix products undergo extensive testing, leveraging the 130+ test procedures in Vitamix’s catalog to assess every component for quality and durability,” Vitamix said in a statement.

“The clear containers and black blade bases are included with certain Vitamix Venturist and Ascent Series blenders, such as the Venturist V1200, Ascent A2300, Ascent A2500, Ascent A3300, and Ascent A3500 blenders; and also sold separately, as sets, or bundles in various configurations,” the recall said.

Ascent models retail for up to $749.95 and the Venturist V1200 can retail for up to $549.95. The blenders are sold on Vitamix.com, Amazon, Walmart, Costco and hundreds of other retailers.
