This Electric Kettle Is a Must-Have in the Winter, and It’s 25% Off Ahead of Cyber Monday

Estimated read time 4 min read

The first snowfall has arrived here in Ohio, and although it isn’t time for a snow shovel yet, the coming of winter means the days (and nights) of hot beverages are at hand. My electric kettle is ready to start earning its keep, and with Black Friday and Cyber Monday events, you can put one to work for you too.

I became obsessed with my electric kettle, the Oxo Brew Adjustable Temperature Pour-Over Kettle, after visiting some friends who had one. This gooseneck kettle is particularly handy if you do pour-over coffee, but I primarily use this for tea and oatmeal. During Amazon’s Black Friday sales event, it’s 25% off, making it a great deal for you or the coffee or tea lover in your life.

The Oxo gooseneck kettle is super easy to use and has some useful features (like holding temperatures for 30 minutes), making it a great gift for the coffee or tea lover in your life. For more, here are the best Cyber Monday deals under $25 and our favorite bargains under $50.

A better way to brew

I used to stick a kettle on the stovetop and heat it up there. It worked well, in the sense that water got hot, but there are some problems with that approach.

First, there’s a lot of wasted energy, as some energy is heating up the kitchen rather than the water. Even worse, I used to have a gas range, which poses some health risks caused by the leakage of fumes and toxins.

The stovetop kettle is also less convenient. You have to be around to turn it off when it gets to the boiling point, otherwise, you face a long, horrendous whistling sound and a jet of steam. The whole thing is not conducive to a remote worker heating up yet another cup of Irish breakfast tea during a meeting.

The electric kettle changes that. It uses a heating element built into the kettle itself, meaning there’s less energy wasted in the form of heat released into the air. The Oxo kettle I use will heat water to a specific temperature and hold it there for 30 minutes. So if one of my meetings runs long, there’s still hot water waiting for me.

Having more control over the water temperature while saving energy and avoiding turning on the range makes this well worth it to me.

I tried running the electric kettle off of this portable power station, but the kettle required too much power.

Why an electric kettle makes a great gift

Most fans of hot beverages will find some way to put an electric kettle to use. Coffee connoisseurs might appreciate one with a gooseneck spout for pour-over coffee purposes. Tea drinkers will enjoy the convenience of more control over hot water on demand. Think of it as a step up from gifting a coffee mug.

I like the gooseneck kettles because they’re harder to spill. The Oxo kettle has a dial allowing complete control of the temperature, and a kettle with good temperature control is very useful.

Is the Oxo gooseneck electric kettle on sale for Black Friday and Cyber Monday?

Amazon has the Oxo gooseneck electric kettle on sale, down 25% to $79. There are other choices, including those among CNET’s picks for the best electric kettles. Consider this option from KitchenAid, which is down 20% to $80 after Black Friday.
