Last month, the r/Spongebob subreddit was collectively saying “I’m ready,” when a user shared an alleged leaked internal memo from Wendy’s, which suggested that the Ohio-based chain would be releasing its take on the Krabby Patty in early October. According to the rumored memo, the Krabby Patty burger — and an accompanying Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty — were both being released in collaboration with Paramount in celebration of the iconic cartoon’s 25th anniversary.
Four weeks later, Wendy’s has confirmed that this is really happening!
The Wendy’s Krabby Patty Kollab, as it’s called, will bring both the Krabby Patty Kollab Burger and that Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty to Wendy’s restaurants in the United States, Canada, and Guam. The limited-edition menu items will be available starting next Tuesday, October 8.
“In a world of people cutting corners, Wendy’s is known for quality in everything we do — from our fresh, famous food to collaborations with brands that our fans love,” Lindsay Radkoski, U.S. chief marketing officer for The Wendy’s Company, said in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “So, it makes sense that two of the most iconic squares in pop culture are teaming up to bring a taste of this unique, limited-time experience to life for fans of all ages!”
Wendy’s version of the Krabby Patty is a quarter-pound burger topped with two slices of melted American cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickle, onion, and a new proprietary Krabby Kollab sauce. On top of that, the Pineapple Under the Sea Frosty takes the Wendy’s Vanilla Frosty and mixes in a Pineapple Mango-flavored purée.
“The Krabby Patty Kollab marks another innovative way to continue the landmark 25th-anniversary celebration of SpongeBob SquarePants, bringing Bikini Bottom to the surface like never before,” Dario Spina, chief marketing officer of Paramount Brand Studio, said in a statement. “Wendy’s pulse on pop culture and connection to fans makes this collaboration a perfect match for Paramount, and we’re looking forward to delivering memorable and immersive experiences through custom creative, engaging social content and recognizable influence.”
Los Angeles-based Spongebob lovers can get a sneak peek — or, more accurately, a sneak bite — of the new Krabby Patty Kollab Meal on both Monday, October 7, and Tuesday, October 8, through an “immersive Wendy’s drive-thru experience” at the restaurant located at 14645 Roscoe Boulevard in Panorama City, California. Everyone else will be able to order it in-store at their local Wendy’s, at the drive-thru, or through the Wendy’s mobile app starting October 8.
And, as regular Spongebob watchers know, “The only people who don’t like a Krabby Patty have never tasted one!”
