The Wait For GTA 6’s Second Trailer Just Broke A Sad Record

Estimated read time 2 min read

It’s been more than one year since Rockstar Games released the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, and in fact, the wait for the next trailer has now broken a record for the developer.

As GTA 6+ first noticed, the time between Trailer 1 and the inevitable Trailer 2 for GTA VI has now eclipsed the wait times for the first and second trailers for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption II.

GTA V got its first trailer on November 2, 2011, with its second trailer arriving on November 14, 2012 for a total of 378 days between. Red Dead Redemption II’s first trailer arrived on October 20, 2016 and its second arrived on September 28, 2017–that was a gap of 343 days. GTA VI’s first trailer, meanwhile, was posted on December 4, 2023. Its second trailer has not yet arrived.

As December 20, it’s been 381 days since the first trailer arrived, marking the longest wait for a follow-up trailer for a major Rockstar Games new release in more than decade.

In the absence of any new real information, GTA fans are grasping onto anything they can find to connect the dots about when the second trailer might arrive. Nothing has yet materialized, however. Strauss Zelnick, the head of Rockstar parent company Take-Two, recently said he understands fans are frustrated, but said Rockstar won’t release GTA VI until it’s ready.

Rockstar does have a history of releasing new assets for major games during the holidays, as the company debuted new GTA V screens on Christmas Eve back in 2012. As of yet, however, there is nothing pointing to Rockstar Games releasing anything new for GTA VI before the end of 2024.

GTA VI is set for release in Fall 2025, a window that Take-Two has committed to on multiple occasions. Every Rockstar Games title from the past decade has been delayed beyond its first publicly confirmed date.

GTA VI takes players back to Vice City–a stand-in for Miami–for the first time in the main series since GTA: Vice City in 2002. The game appears to focus on two main characters, which follows on from reports that GTA VI could feature a Bonnie and Clyde-style story about two robbers.
