The South Park Movie Is Finally Releasing On 4K Blu-Ray For Its 25th Anniversary

Estimated read time 3 min read

Considering that South Park is still going strong as a TV show in 2024, it can be a bit disconcerting to realize that the movie version, South Park: Bigger, Longer and Uncut, came out 25 years ago this summer. I don’t know about you, but that certainly makes me feel old. But that’s okay, because that feeling of oldness will fade quickly when you’re enjoying this comedy classic in 4K for the first time. The first South Park movie’s 25th Anniversary edition is available to preorder now at Amazon, Walmart, and Target. And compared to many recent 4K releases, it feels like a bargain to be able to snag it for as low as $20.

Yes, it’s fair to ask whether it’s truly necessary to watch South Park in 4K. But it’s important to keep in mind that the animation in the South Park movie, which cost $30 million to make, was a lot more sophisticated than the show’s thanks to the significant use of CGI at various points–this thing is gonna look good with all those extra pixels. But if for some reason you’re anti-4K when it comes to South Park, the 25th Anniversary edition includes a 1080p Blu-ray and digital code for good measure.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut 25th Anniversary Edition Special Features

  • Commentary from South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker
  • “What Would Brian Boitano Do?” Music Video
  • Sing-along version of the movie
  • Theatrical trailers

If you’re a big South Park fan, you’ll be happy to know that not only can you sing-along with the film from the comfort of your own couch, you can head to your local theater and sing with friends and family–and lots of strangers who hopefully have good pitch and tone. The Sing-along version of the film is receiving a limited-time theatrical release. Limited is the key word here. The movie (musical?) will only be on the big screen on June 23 and June 26. You can buy tickets now from Fandango, and keep in mind seats will probably fill before those dates.

The South Park movie isn’t the only film from series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone that’s getting the 4K treatment this summer: Team America: World Police is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a limited edition that releases the same day. It also happens to be up for preorder for the same prices at the same retailers: Amazon, Walmart, and Target.
