If there’s one NFL player who isn’t shy about sharing his diet—no matter how untraditional it might seem—it’s Travis Kelce. Because as some football players follow strict diets—like the famous Tom Brady “TB12” method of eating mostly plant-based foods—Kelce isn’t afraid to share his love for Uncrustables, doughnuts, and, of course, the French toast he eats before every game.
As a ‘90s kid, many of Kelce’s beloved foods are nostalgic—like the peanut butter and jelly sandwiches he eats more than “anything else in the world” and amusement park classic Dippin’ Dots. On his podcast, “New Heights,” which he shares with his brother, former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason, the Kelces have also discussed their favorite cereals: Reese’s Puffs, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and Lucky Charms. This even led to a General Mills partnership to create Kelce Mix cereal featuring all three in one box.
Now, while talking about the 2024 college football bowl games, on a recent episode of the podcast, the brothers shared the one snack they “couldn’t imagine a childhood without.” Pop-Tarts.
Travis and Jason Kelce’s Favorite Pop-Tarts Flavors
In recapping some of the best bowl games, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end asked his big brother if he watched the Duke’s Mayo Bowl. It’s no secret that Travis hates mayonnaise, so as videos of the ceremonious “mayo shower” (the Duke’s Mayo Bowl version of a “Gatorade shower”) for the winning team played, Travis couldn’t help but cringe.
“Get it off the screen,” he yelled. “I’m sweating.”
So, to divert the conversation away from his detested condiment, Travis brought up the 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl. Pop-Tarts took its bowl game antics one step further from its hilarious 2023 game. The brand made a trophy with an actual working toaster inside, and introduced three new Pop-Tarts mascots to replace the one that was eaten at the end of the game last year—however, the half-eaten Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tart did make a triumphant return this year.
“I thought they had the coolest mascots,” Travis said about the bowl game. “What was your favorite Pop-Tart growing up?”
After clarifying that Toaster Strudels didn’t count—of course they don’t, Jason—the “They Call It Late Night” host responded, “It’s hard to go wrong with a Strawberry.”
“Mhm! F**k, they’re so good,” Travis agreed.
Jason also mentioned enjoying the Brown Sugar Cinnamon flavor, while Travis added S’mores to the list. However, the “sneaky” flavor that’s crazy good, according to Travis, was actually one of the 2024 Pop-Tarts Bowl mascots.
“There was the sneaky one that came in just as we were getting too old to eat Pop-Tarts every day,” Travis said.
“The blueberry one,” Jason asked.
“Wild Berry. It was purple with the blue icing…” Travis said.
“It’s a very good one,” Jason agreed.
“Could you imagine a childhood without those,” Travis asked.
Honestly, Travis, no, we couldn’t. But we couldn’t imagine a life without them now either—especially since the Kellanova brand is still releasing new flavors and bringing back old-school ones. Someone get the Kelces a box of the returning Cinnamon Roll Pop-Tarts, and maybe they’ll be back to eating them every day again.
