After a short delay, the Minecraft movie started filming in January and in just three months wrapped principal photography. Star Jason Momoa posted on his Instagram Friday showing the movie’s cast and expressing his excitement about the production.

“Minecraft we are wrapping! All my aloha to my crew and cast. Unbelievable movie experience truly one of the greatest times of my life,” the actor said. “Too many laughs. I love this country. Aotearoa New Zealand you are magical. Mahalo for letting me film here.” Momoa also commended his Dahui brand team for helping families in Maui still in need.

The Minecraft movie is directed by Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite), from a screenplay written by Chris Bowman and Hubbel Palmer, and co-produced by Momoa. Alongside Momoa, the film stars Jack Black, Danielle Brooks, Emma Myers, Jennifer Coolidge, Kate McKinnon, and Jemaine Clement.

Plot details are mainly unknown outside of the film being an adaption of the game with the Ender Dragon seeking destruction, which prompts a young girl (Myers) and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld.

Minecraft the movie is scheduled to arrive in theaters on April 4, 2025.
