When the design geniuses at Apple went to work on the latest iterations of their tablets, the iPad Air came out with the best overhaul. Released just last May, the 11-inch iPad Air was upgraded inside and out, with the Ultra Wide 12MP front camera moved to the landscape edge, landscape stereo speakers with Spatial Audio, the powerful M2 processor chip, and Apple Intelligence driven by a 16-core Neural Engine that moves 40 percent faster than the M1. Maybe it’s the rumors of a further revamping coming sometime in 2025, but the all-new iPad Air is still an Amazon steal at just $499 ($100 off).
The 11-inch M2 iPad Air may still be flying under the radar a little, since the headlines all went to the first 13-inch iPad Air which was released at the same time. But as with most tech items that miss out on the big unveiling hullabaloo, the 11-inch model of the M2 iPad Air has settled into a more accessible price point while having many or even most of the same features and perks as its big brother.
All About the Speed
Moving from the A14 Bionic processor chip to the M2 was the iPad Air’s great leap forward. We mentioned the Neural Engine’s 40 percent upgrade over the A14 Bionic, which means faster and better AI performance, but the graphics performance and overall speed of the M2 iPad Air are both huge upgrades from the previous-gen processor. The 9-core graphics processing unit (GPU) and 8-core CPU give the latest iPad Air a huge leg up on much of the competition.
Multitasking has never been easier, and gaming and streaming have never been more free of lag. Overall, the M2 iPad Air moves up to 3x faster than the A14 Bionic model. If you get lost in the gaming or streaming sauce, the iPad Air’s new, upgraded battery has your back. Apple calls it an “all-day battery,” and we can’t argue with that assessment.
Brainpower for Days
Those processing upgrades have made the M2 iPad Air the perfect venue for Apple Intelligence and all of its many capabilities. iPadOS-only features like Visual Look Up, Subject LIft, and Live Text will have you using this tablet like none you’ve ever owned before, along with the Photomator one-click photo enhancement tool and all of the writing cues that will get you out of that mental rut when you’re crafting an email or writing a paper. When you’re finally ready to hit send on that email, the Wi-Fi 6E and 5G connections will get it out faster than ever before.
The M2 iPad Air’s original price point of $599 placed it squarely in the middle of the tablet pricing range, but Amazon’s 17% off deal running right now has knocked a C-note off of that number, making the M2 iPad Air a great deal at just $499.
