Lately, Nintendo seems to act like it’s a secret to everybody about who is actually making a game. In fact, there is still no official confirmation for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’s developer, even though it comes out next week. But, a new report points to a familiar name working on the game.
According to Eurogamer, Grezzo is apparently the studio behind The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. This was reportedly spotted by people who have preordered the Switch exclusive, like Naruki on X. Previously, the developer worked on The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. Grezzo also has created games outside the Zelda franchise, such as Ever Oasis on 3DS and Jet Dragon on iOS.

This is not the first time Nintendo has kept things quiet about what team is actually working on one of its first-party games. For instance, it’s still unknown who’s developing Mario & Luigi: Brothership for Switch. The original team behind the RPG series was Alpha Dream, which went bankrupt in 2019 and shuttered afterward.
Additionally, Nintendo was cagey about who would voice Mario in last year’s Super Mario Bros. Wonder after longtime voice actor Charles Martinet was revealed to not be behind the role. Nintendo basically told everyone to read the game’s credits after it was released.
The official store page for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom only shows Nintendo as publisher, without a developer. The Switch exclusive doesn’t launch until September 26; however, the ROM has reportedly leaked.
GameSpot’s The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom preview noted that it plays like a mini Tears of the Kingdom. It’s the first mainline game in the franchise to star the princess, though Link might be playable at some point. Meanwhile, the Zelda timeline has seemingly become more baffling, not even taking into account the upcoming release of Echoes of Wisdom.
