Game day parties might revolve around sports for some people, but for many of us, the snacks are the main event. While you can certainly make everything from scratch, you can also save time (and dishes) with a little help from one of our favorite sources for crowd-friendly appetizers: Costco.
To make foods like store-bought guacamole or frozen spring rolls feel closer to homemade, I’ll often add a garnish or stir together a quick sauce. From frozen finger foods to flavorful dips, these are my favorite Costco appetizers that will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters.
Sukhi’s Potato Samosas
Filled with potatoes and peas, these flaky samosas from the freezer aisle come with a tangy cilantro chutney, but I also serve them with tamarind and mango chutneys I pick up at my local Indian market for an extra flavor boost.
SuperPretzel Soft Pretzels
These nostalgic soft pretzels are extra large (aka the size you get at a baseball stadium), so I cut them into bite-sized pieces for dipping into a cheese sauce or ranch dressing. To make them feel a bit fancier, brush them with hot melted butter and sprinkle with everything bagel seasoning after they come out of the oven.
Petite Cuisine Mozzarella Sticks
Evoking childhood memories of an Italian-American restaurant, mozzarella sticks stand the test of time. These ones, seasoned with a hint of garlic and onion powder, crisp up beautifully in the air fryer or in a hot convection oven. Serve with your choice of jarred marinara, warmed.
Bibigo Vegetable Spring Rolls
These frozen spring rolls, filled with veggies like edamame and cabbage, get shatteringly crisp when cooked in the air fryer. Serve with classic duck sauce, sweet chili sauce, or hoisin sauce.
Chipotle Bitchin’ Sauce
This vegan dip, made from a base of blended almonds, is appropriately named — it is freaking delicious. Packed with flavor thanks to super savory nutritional yeast and tangy lemon juice, it is also filled with chipotle peppers that will bring some welcome heat to your game day party. Serve with crudités like carrots, celery, baby cucumbers, and mini bell peppers.
Just Bare Lightly Breaded Chicken Breast Chunks
Chicken wings might be traditional, but they’re not the easiest to eat while sitting on the couch with your friends. To lessen the amount of napkins and wet wipes needed, I opt for these well-seasoned boneless chicken nuggets. Reminiscent of Chick-fil-A chunks, they have just enough breading to feel decadent yet worthy of an adult meal. Serve these with ranch dressing and blue cheese dressing.
Wholly Guacamole Organic Mild Guacamole
Chips and dip are a requirement at any game day party. You can make guacamole from scratch if you remember to pick up a bag of avocados and limes the week before, or you can make your life easy and buy this version from Wholly Guacamole. Top it with fresh chopped tomato, cilantro, and red onion.
Spring Valley Beef Cocktail Franks in Puff Pastry
No one can turn down pigs in a blanket. Even Anthony Bourdain always stocked them in his freezer, according to his 2016 cookbook, Appetites. No matter who you are or what time of day, if you put out a platter of these, they’ll be devoured in seconds. Serve with grainy mustard.
