The #1 Underrated High-Protein Drink at Trader Joe’s

Estimated read time 3 min read

As a new and occasional Trader Joe’s shopper, I love adding new things to my cart each time I go. It’s rare that I buy the same thing twice because a) the grocery chain is constantly changing up their inventory with seasonal picks and b) there’s too many fun options on my list to taste test.

However, there have been two exceptions to my unofficial “new tries only” rule. First is my favorite cheese that is absolutely underrated. The other item is also underrated in my eyes. It’s not the viral TJ’s banana pudding ice cream that is blowing up across social media, but I think if you love the trending dessert, you’ll want to try this drink featuring bananas.

This high-protein drink is one that you may have looked past. But trust me, it’s worth the buy, especially if you’re a smoothie lover. I’m talking about the Banana & Almond Butter Protein Smoothie—here’s why I love it so much.

First, it tastes like dessert for breakfast. The smooth, creamy texture and natural sweetness from the banana puree and coconut water is simply delicious. They’re sold in single bottles in the refrigerator section, so it’s a quick grab and go when I’m wrapping up my shopping—and when I get to the car, I immediately crack a bottle open and take a sip.

Here’s the nutrition information for one 16-ounce bottle of the Trader Joe’s Banana & Almond Butter Protein Smoothie:

  • Calories: 320
  • Carbohydrates: 19 g
  • Fiber: 5 g
  • Total Sugars: 12 g
  • Added Sugars: 0 g
  • Protein: 14 g
  • Total Fat: 21 g
  • Saturated Fat: 2 g
  • Sodium: 150 mg

This beverage boasts 14 grams of protein thanks to the almond butter and pea protein powder in the drink. Plus, it’s a great source of fiber and healthy fat, meaning that this smoothie is a nutritious, satisfying choice to start the day.

It’s also incredibly convenient. I don’t own a blender (I wouldn’t use it enough to justify the purchase) so for me a ready-to-drink smoothie is a great alternative to homemade. If you’d rather make a smoothie like this at home, I totally understand: our Almond Butter & Banana Protein Smoothie recipe embraces the same flavors. Plus it’s highly-rated and comes together in just five minutes.

Overall: it’s healthy, it’s tasty and it’s editor-approved. I definitely recommend that you seek out this protein-packed drink and try it yourself! For more drink recommendations at TJ’s, check out these diabetes-friendly options that are worth buying.
