Actor Jack Quaid voices Clark Kent/Superman on the animated show My Adventures with Superman, but when he auditioned for the live-action version for James Gunn’s new movie, it didn’t go so well. He told Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he sent an audition tape to Gunn, but it “went nowhere.”
“I didn’t get very far at all… and that’s fine,” he said, as reported by IGN.
Quaid said that although he’s the voice of Superman already, he didn’t “fit the bill physically at all.” He said he’s fine with not getting the role and said it was “cool” to audition for such a big part.
Quaid also sung the praises of the person who did land the role, David Corenswet, saying, “That guy is Superman.” Quaid stars on Prime Video’s The Boys, which recently wrapped up its fourth season. Spoilers for the TV show follow below.
While Quaid didn’t land the role of Superman in the upcoming live-action movie, he did get to suit up as a superhero, of sorts, during a Season 4 episode of The Boys. After the crew knocks Webweaver unconscious, Quaid’s Hughie character slips into the suit for an undercover mission. Unfortunately for him, though, he gets trapped in a sex dungeon and has all manner of sex acts performed on him before he is ultimately rescued just before his assailant cuts a hole into him for pleasure.
As for Gunn’s Superman movie, the film is slated to hit theaters in July 2025. It also features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
