Strawberries in syrup are blended into vanilla ice cream in this diner-style strawberry milkshake recipe. Together, fruit and syrup give it a fresher and more concentrated fruity flavor compared to a shake made with strawberry ice cream. Plus, the syrup thins this shake out, so you don’t need to add extra milk that would dilute the flavors. For even more strawberries in the mix — literally — throw a few extra into your already blended shake, then pulse the blender until they become small chunks that are easy to slurp up in a straw.

Notes from the Food & Wine Test Kitchen
Try swapping chocolate ice cream for vanilla to create a chocolate-strawberry milkshake.
Suggested pairing
Make a spiked dessert by adding a small amount of the alcohol of your choice to your shake. Fruit liqueurs, like Chambord or crème de cassis, are a good place to start.
Make ahead
Ice cream, once melted, should not be refrozen. Enjoy your milkshake while it lasts!
