Star Wars Icon Anthony Daniels Selling Off His Prop Collection

Anthony Daniels, known for his four-decade portrayal of C-3PO, is preparing to auction off his Star Wars memorabilia. In a Propstore auction in Los Angeles taking place from March 12 to March 14, Daniels will bid adieu to his collection so others can bid on items including a screen-matched light-up head worn in Return of the Jedi–which is expected to fetch up to $1 million.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about the auction, Daniels conveyed a mix of sentimentality and practicality. “Am I right to move this on?” Daniels said, reflecting on his attachment to items he has held onto for half a century. “I had all this stuff, almost all of it was in cupboards, drawers and in attics… [but] nobody was looking at it, nobody was treasuring it, if you will. And it was too good to throw away.”

The auction presents a rare opportunity for collectors, as Daniels is the only major Star Wars actor to openly sell his memorabilia. This also marks the final batch of items being unloaded by Daniels, who previously auctioned off a portion of his collection in London. Despite parting with most of his collection, Daniels has retained two keepsakes, including a statue from Lucasfilm commemorating 40 years of service and an 18-inch C-3PO Lego statue.

Meanwhile, preparations for Star Wars celebrations in April are in full swing at Disneyland, Disneyland Paris, and Walt Disney World. Beginning this April, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue at all three parks will feature new destinations and characters from recent franchise entries including Andor and The Mandalorian. Ahsoka’s inclusion in the parks was announced last year to coincide with the release of her solo series.
