Plot details of the upcoming Rey Skywalker solo movie are still under wraps, even a release date, but actress Daisy Ridley fully wants one specific Star Wars Jedi to come to fruition. The movie will be set 15 years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with Rey reportedly establishing a Jedi Order of her own. Daisy Ridley says she has an idea for a prized pupil.
Talking to Screen Rant, Ridley responded about finally making John Boyega’s Finn a Jedi knight, something that was hinted at since the beginning of The Force Awakens’ marketing launched.
“That is above my pay grade,” she laughed. “I would love to see that, but that is not a decision for me.”
Posters with Finn wielding a lightsaber were teased leading up to the movie’s release, then the trailer had him brandishing one in battle. Fan theories at the time had Finn pinned as a new student for Luke Skywalker. However, Disney had other plans and it was a red herring for Rey’s character to take the Jedi route.
The big question, though, is if John Boyega would ever return to Star Wars. The actor has said that he is open to any and all opportunities. “I’m open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached and a terrific director,” he said. “So yeah, I’m open to all opportunities.”
This is, much like all Star Wars movies before release, fan theories, but also a chance to make things right for Finn’s character arc. Ridley mentioned as SXSW last month that she’s eager to read the script when it’s finally finished.
