Star Wars Actor Is “Quite Surprised” The Acolyte Was Canceled After One Season

The Star Wars TV show The Acolyte was recently canceled after a single season, and one person who was surprised by the announcement was actor Lee Jung-jae, who plays Master Sol on the show. This story contains spoilers for The Acolyte.

Master Sol dies in Season 1, so Lee was not going to come back if Disney moved ahead with a second season. However, the actor said he’s a big fan of series creator Leslye Headland’s writing and directing skills, and was hopeful for a second season.

“To hear the news, I was quite surprised personally as well,” Lee told Entertainment Weekly. However, in Hollywood anything is possible, and the actor isn’t giving up hope just yet. “Honestly, I am hoping that maybe there could be changes in the future. You never know what’s going to happen. I really hope we could get to see further stories of Leslye’s second season.”

Headland herself might not have been too surprised by the cancellation, though, as she told Entertainment Weekly in late July that she hadn’t heard a peep about a renewal order. She did, however, have some ideas for a Season 2.

The reaction to The Acolyte’s cancellation came swift and heavy with all manner of takes and opinions about the show coming to an end.

The Acolyte reached 4.8 million viewers for its two-episode premiere in June on the first day, setting a record for Disney+ at the time, and rising to 11.1 million after a week. After that, however, ratings dropped off to potentially the lowest ever for a Star Wars TV show finale.

While The Acolyte is not coming back, Disney is pressing ahead with more Star Wars TV shows, including Skeleton Crew, which releases this December.
