It’s been a while since we last checked in with the crew of the USS Enterprise, but at long last, Paramount has given us our first look at season three of the hit Star Trek series… and poor Spock is in for a bit of workplace heell.
During Star Trek‘s blockbuster panel at San Diego Comic-Con today, the streamer gave us a sneak peek at what to expect from Captain Pike and the crew when Strange New Worlds returns. When we last left them at the climax of season two, things were pretty dire: the Enterprise had rushed to the aid of the USS Cayuga, the ship helmed by Pike’s love interest Captain Batel (regular guest star Melanie Scrofano), after it was trapped helping a colony world invaded by the Gorn. That’s a far stretch from the musical and crossover hijinks we got earlier in season two, but it looks like season three is going to keep balancing that vibe of serious Trek storytelling and its lighter side if this extended scene is anything to go by.
Building on from the season 2 episode that saw Spock’s half-Vulcan heritage momentarily erased after a strange encounter, now Pike, La’an, Uhura, and Nurse Chapel find themselves getting transformed into Vulcans to perform a dangerous mission. Turns out nothing is ever that easy, and poor Spock–who finds it hellish to have four full-Vulcan officers around to remind him he’s only half-Vulcan–finds himself in troubled waters when the away team returns and finds they can’t turn back to their human selves.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is expected to return to Paramount+ for season three in 2025.
