On Dec. 12, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall of 2.6 million Stanley mugs. According to the alert, Switchback and Trigger Action travel mugs may have faulty lids that can lead to potential burn risk.
Specifically, when exposed to heat and torque, the mug’s lid threads can shrink, causing it to detach during use. This poses a burn hazard if the cup contains hot liquids.
So far, Stanley has received 91 reports worldwide of the lids detaching, resulting in 38 burn injuries. In the U.S., 16 cases have been reported, resulting in two burn injuries.
