Nine years ago, Sony and Supermassive Games unleashed Until Dawn, an interactive survival horror story that proved to be very popular. Supermassive Games went on to make similar games, but not a direct sequel to Until Dawn. Now, Sony’s Until Dawn remake has leaked early and revealed some new additions to the game that may set up a sequel.
Warning: there are some spoilers ahead for both Until Dawn and its remake.
Eurogamer shared the details about the two new post-credits scenes. The first features Rami Malek’s Josh, one of the key figures in the story. Josh’s original fate had two options: death or transformation into a Wendigo. The remake adds a third fate for Josh that leaves him badly injured, but still alive after his close encounter with the creature. Josh is also haunted by the voice of Dr. Hill who tells him that he may still be able to redeem himself.
Hayden Panettiere’s Sam gets the spotlight in the other new post-credits scene. This interlude takes place several years after the story, as an older Sam is apparently self-medicating for her severe PTSD. One of the books by her bed is called Creature Myths of the Great Plains, which implies that she’s been researching the Wendigos and other beasts of myth and legend. When Sam awakens from her dream, she discovers a bleeding wound on her arm and an eerie voice calling her name.
Sony hasn’t announced any plans for a new game in the Until Dawn series, but these additions suggest that there are at least some early concepts for where the story could go in the future.
Until Dawn’s remake will hit PlayStation 5 and PC on October 4.
