In 2015, Sony and Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn gave gamers an interactive experience that was inspired by countless horror films that came before it. The game was so well-received that there’s a remake on the way for PlayStation 5 and PC, and an Until Dawn feature film that was announced in January. Now, the movie is picking steam, and the first Until Dawn cast members have been revealed.
Via Deadline, Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A’zion have been cast in Until Dawn. The report doesn’t state which characters they will play in the movie. The original cast of the game included future Oscar-winner Rami Malek, Heroes star Hayden Panettiere, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Brett Dalton among the leads. It’s unknown if any of the video game cast members will make cameos in the film.
Rubin is currently co-starring in The Idea of You on Prime Video, while Cimino is starring in Prime Video’s upcoming series Motorheads after his leading role in Hulu’s Love, Victor. Yoo and A’zion have also had a recent roles on Prime Video in Expats and Sitting in Bars With Cakes, respectively.
The original game took place on a remote mountain as a group of friends reunited a year after two members of their clique disappeared. Despite the group’s shared desire to emotionally move on, strange things are lurking around them and something supernatural is also in play. The players’ decisions ultimately determined which characters would live and which ones would die.
David F. Sandberg will direct Until Dawn from a script by Gary Dauberman. Former G4 host turned screenwriter, Blair Butler, wrote the previous draft. Sony Pictures hasn’t set a date for the Until Dawn movie yet.
