All burger fans should listen up, because next week is bringing excellent news for you.
Today, Sonic announced its plans to take “a stand against mediocre cheeseburgers” by releasing a fantastic deal to get its Sonic Smasher into the hands of more hungry patrons.
The fast-food chain is kicking off “Smasher Week” on Monday, April 21, and giving the first 1 million people who order the Double Sonic Smasher through the Sonic App an exclusive reward to purchase the cheeseburger for just $1.
In case you need a refresher on what this burger is all about, Sonic explains in a statement provided to Food & Wine that the Double Sonic Smasher, which was first released in 2024, features two Angus beef patties “seasoned and seared to perfection, creating a crispy edge and juicy center that’s irresistible.” The brand also notes that the patties are smashed and cooked to order.
Then, the crispy beef is topped with two slices of American cheese, a signature Smasher sauce (which Sonic describes as “creamy” and “tangy”), crinkle-cut pickles, and diced onions, before being sandwiched inside a soft potato bun.
“Consumers should be able to indulge in a premium cheeseburger without having to pay the high costs charged by many fast-casual burger brands. Our mission at Sonic has always been to bring fun, craveable food to our guests at unbeatable prices,” Ryan Dickerson, the chief marketing officer at Sonic, shared in a statement at the time.
“With the Sonic Smasher, our culinary experts have allowed us to take that commitment to the next level. This burger is not just hand-smashed — it’s a blend of textures and flavors that come together for a cheeseburger that’s crispy, juicy, and melty all at once.”
To get this burger for $1, you’ll need to be quick. Start by downloading the Sonic app, then tap the “Deals” tab to locate and redeem the $1 Double Sonic Smasher reward. As long as you’re within the first million customers, you should be all set. Sonic notes that the reward is only valid for a one-time purchase and ends either when the brand hits that million-customer mark or on April 27, depending on which one comes first.
Any add-ons will cost extra, and taxes are not included, so the final price will likely be a bit more than one dollar — but it’s a good deal all the same. Unfortunately, you can’t get this deal delivered and will need to pick the order up in person.
This excellent discount isn’t the only news Sonic has recently announced. In March, the brand unveiled the addition of two new flavors to its dipping sauces: Jalapeño Ranch and Asian-Style Sweet Chili. This way, the company explained, customers can get “something creamy with a spicy twist or a sweet-meets-heat experience.”
“Our guests love customization, and the new Jalapeño Ranch and Asian-Style Sweet Chili dipping sauces let them try different flavor combinations to suit their style,” Mackenzie Gibson, vice president of culinary and menu innovation at Sonic, shared. “Whether adding a kick to our beloved tots by dipping them in Jalapeño Ranch or pairing our Premium Chicken Bites with Asian-Style Sweet Chili sauce for a sweet finish, fans now have even more ways to personalize and enjoy their favorite Sonic meals with our extended sauce lineup.”
You know what sounds like it would pair perfectly with a $1 burger? An order of fries and some spicy new dipping sauces for dunking.
