Smoked Cheddar and Smoked Gouda

There are two brand-new Cheez-It flavors to love, and it’s all thanks to TikTok.

On Tuesday, the brand announced its new smoked flavor line, which includes both the Smoked Cheddar and Cheez-It Smoked Gouda flavors, inspired by social media users spicing up their own crackers at home, including Holmes Cooking, whose video showcasing homemade smoked Cheez-Its has garnered more than 242,000 likes to date.

I’ve been seeing a lot of people smoke Cheez-Its,” the TikToker began. He takes a box of white cheddar Cheez-Its, sprays on some oil, and notes that “Richard Eats says you can use any barbecue seasoning you want. So I went with Heath Riles garlic jalapeno rub.” He does two passes with the spray and seasoning to make sure it’s well-coated, then pops them on the grill at 225 degrees for two hours, and out comes a delicious snack. And his video is far from alone. Just search for “Cheez-It smoked” on the platform, and you’ll find endless varieties.

But again, why do all that work when you can just buy a box of the good stuff now?

According to Cheez-It, its Smoked Cheddar flavor comes with the “100% real cheese taste of Cheez-It with a smoky cheddar twist. The robust, savory flavor is infused with a hickory and oak wood smoke flavor, adding complexity to the aged cheddar and onion notes for a rich, layered experience.”

Its Smoked Gouda flavor, Cheez-It said, includes the creamy taste of Gouda, “expertly balanced with the rich essence of hickory and maple wood smoke flavor. The subtle smoke pairs perfectly with the smooth, rich flavor of 100% real cheese for a one-of-a-kind snacking moment.”

As for how it captured that smoky flavor, Cheez-It wouldn’t reveal its secrets, noting it used a “proprietary process” to create the taste.

The Cheez-It Smoked flavors will be available starting in November at retailers across the country, including Publix, Kroger, Walmart, Albertsons, and other major grocery store chains where you’re likely to find Cheez-Its. Both come with a$3.25 suggested retail price per 7-ounce container and $4.99 per 12.4-ounce container.
