After August’s Lego deluge, September is looking relatively quiet for the brickbuilder… outside of two massive sets in particular, that is.
This month is pretty much defined by two major Lego drops: the company’s first-ever Legend of Zelda set in the Great Deku Tree, and its latest Ideas release in Nightmare Before Christmas (just in time for spooky season!). But that’s not all that’s coming this month. D&D fans can gather their party and venture forth with a whole line of new minifigures to put with their Red Dragon from earlier this year, and then for those who want to avoid Halloween altogether, it’s somehow already time for Lego’s yearly advent calendars to release. Here’s everything coming in September!
Lego Icons The Legend of Zelda Great Deku Tree 2-in-1
Lego’s first collaboration with Nintendo gave us the Super Mario interactive playsets, and a few premium collector models inspired by classic gaming consoles, but now the world of Hyrule has, after many, many attempts, made its way to brick form! This massive set contains paths to building one of two different versions of the legendary Great Deku Tree from across the Zelda timeline: either the version seen in the opening hours of N64 classic Ocarina of Time, or the grand guardian of the resting Master Sword in Breath of the Wild. You can only build one version at a time, sure, but at least you get a bunch of minifigures representing Zelda and versions of Link from both Ocarina and Breath of the Wild. ($300, available here)
Lego Dungeons & Dragons Collectible Minifigures
The latest blind-box set of minifigures comes right from the Forgotten Realms, with 12 heroes and villains from across Dungeons & Dragons lore, including named legendary figures Strahd and Tasha, iconic monstrous foes including the Mindflayer, and a cavalcade of adventurers of all sorts of classes and species: a Dragonborn Paladin, an Aarakocra Ranger, and more. Perfect new models for your next TTRPG session just dropped. ($5 each, available here)
Lego Ideas Nightmare Before Christmas
The latest from Lego’s crowdsourced Ideas platform could’ve only more perfectly arrived if we were looking at October’s Lego list rather than September’s. Henry Selick’s legendary animated movie inspires this fantastic set recreating some of the film’s most iconic Halloween Town locales, capturing the freaky, exaggerated stylization of the film perfectly. And it comes with a ton of minifigures too, including Sandy Claws himself! ($200, available September 6 or from September 3 early access to Lego Insiders here)
Lego Seasonal Sets
Not to be outdone in the festivities, but Lego straddles both Halloween and Christmas alike with a few releases this month—a small but spooky Halloween barn, and two new Christmas decorations.
Lego Advent Calendars
Rounding out the seasonal offerings are Lego’s now-traditional buildable advent calendars. Available across a whole host of its sublines, including Marvel, Star Wars, City, and more, each one comes with a blind minibuild behind each door or a minifigure, climaxing in a special holiday figure as you draw closer to the big day itself.
