Premium Domain Names for Sale at CrocoDom.com
Adam Robinson is the CEO of Retention.com, a company that aims to help businesses increase revenue by offering a variety of customer retention tools. When the business was founded, it was known as GetEmails and used GetEmails.com. The company upgraded its domain name to Retention.com in 2020, as noted by DomainGang.
Yesterday, Adam tweeted about acquiring a domain name for $800,000, and I saw it after George Kirikos reposted the tweet:
I spent $800,000 to acquire the domain for my startup
Ask me anything
— Adam Robinson (@RetentionAdam) August 7, 2023

Based on further responses to his initial tweet, including one where he specifically mentioned it, the domain name he is referencing is Retention.com. The domain name was acquired in August of 2022. Subsequent to his original tweet, Adam shared that the domain name was worth its $800,000 acquisition price. He also shared that he “Found it through a friend who was a domainer.” I did not see him mention who this person is.
If the $800,000 sale / purchase of Retention.com is added to the 2022 domain name sales reports on DNJournal and NameBio, it will tie for the 12th largest publicly reported domain name sale of last year. I am not sure if DNJournal or NameBio will add this domain name to their sales reports without independent verification.
Regardless of whether or not the sale is added, it is neat to read about a solid domain name acquisition that is benefitting the business.
That is an interesting sale, because Retention.com is a domain I might have sold for $20,000 and maybe might appraise for $100,000 – $200,000. But on the other hand, it was a great thing for GetEmails.com to rebrand like that, because “emails” is limiting and also not as modern sounding (young people don’t use email anymore). So overall the $800,000 was well worth it for them.
Retention.com is a great domain and it’s much more descriptive than GetEmails.com. GetEmails may have been good at the time, but today it sounds like a b-movie scam. Retention is worth 800k even as an initial advertising campaign budget, long term it’s worth millions. Solid domain names are the way to advertise. What other media can get in front of someone at work, in a competitor’s business and on the go. Domains have persistence and this is a memorable name. Congratulations on your purchase Adam!
Thanks I have known Adam since our days in Pittsburgh as kids and glad he took my advice on this. I wish to remain private but I am happy for him and glad I helped
