Reolink’s New Wireless Atlas Camera Won’t Quit With 4K Continuous Recording

Estimated read time 2 min read

Reolink steps into September with a post-Labor Day release of two interesting and powerful security cameras, continuing the Atlas line while adding a new video doorbell. We’ve liked previous Reolink Atlas cams, but the new Atlas PT Ultra is a particularly weighty, durable model, clearly made for heavy-duty outdoor service.

The 4K cam’s leading feature is the ability to continuously record, something rarely seen on a wireless camera, but Reolink has packed enough battery juice in the PT Ultra to continuously film for up to an entire week. That allows the camera to capture every detail and makes it easier to check previous footage for a look at what led up to the shenanigans. It also offers full pan/tilt features with smart object recognition and tracking to follow people, plus SD card (up to 512GB) onboard storage to support that continuous recording feature. So far, it appears to be a strong option for a business or a large yard with a lot of placement options thanks to the wireless design, but we’ll let you know more when we finish our testing.

Reolink is also releasing a new 2K Doorbell Battery model, which is embracing an growing trend in doorbells with its 180-degree, “head-to-toe” field of view to capture an extra amount of visible space. That pairs well with object detection for people, packages and vehicles. Like the Atlas PT Ultra, the doorbell has a microSD card slot for onboard storage, so you don’t have to worry about cloud storage or subscriptions. The doorbell supports both Alexa and Google Assistant.

We’re taking a close look at the Atlas PT Ultra and Reolink’s new doorbell to see how they look in real-world conditions. Both units will be available for purchase on Sept. 25, at which time we’ll have more pricing info.
