In 2018, Reddit user alexbchillin took to the “mildly interesting” subreddit to share a truly horrifying image: A Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup that came with absolutely no peanut butter whatsoever inside. It instantly sent a chill down the spine of candy lovers everywhere. Thankfully, the brand quickly rectified this disaster by sending him a massive supply of (actually) peanut butter-filled treats and a handwritten note stating it was delivering “enough chocolate AND peanut butter to make everything cool between us.”
And now, all these years later, Reese’s is at it again — this time bringing us all the chance to fill our own cups with as much PB as we want.
On Saturday, Reese’s announced it’s releasing a new “Deconstructed Peanut Butter Cup Kit” just in time for National Candy Day on November 4. The kit includes a 10-ounce jar of Reese’s peanut butter cup filling and a 9-ounce milk chocolate shell for fans to “create their own giant customized cup at home.”
“You’re welcome,” it added.
To get one, you can just head over to shop.hersheys.com starting today to snag one of the kits, which the company is selling for $29.99. However, it’s critical to note this is a limited release, and it’s only available while supplies last, so maybe click over as fast as possible if you want one.
“From Reese’s Peanut Butter Pumpkins to Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup Thins and everything in between, we know how personal your ideal chocolate to peanut butter ratio is,” the brand shared in a statement provided to Food & Wine. “So, go ahead, amp up the peanut butter or tone it down — we won’t judge.”
If by some chance you aren’t able to get your hands on one of these kits, that’s ok. You can always go grab a bunch from the store and try to take out all the filling and make one yourself. Or, you can follow this recipe by Jacques Torres to make peanut butter cups at home. All you need is one pound of semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, six ounces of semisweet or bittersweet chocolate, and two cups of smooth peanut butter, along with a little bit of patience. According to Torres, you can also serve them with “cold sweetened whipped cream” for a little something extra special.
