Squid Game isn’t done with Gi-hun, aka Player 456 (Lee Jung-jae). And by the looks of the new season 2 trailer, he’s not done with the deadly competition either.
The highly anticipated second installment of Netflix’s most popular original series ever is gearing up for its bloody return. The South Korean hit will premiere on Dec. 26 on Netflix. If you think the stakes were high last season, just wait — this one looks like it’ll be a doozy.
Player 456 won the money in the season 1 finale and was in the clear. He dyed his hair bright red and was heading to start a new life in some distant locale. But he didn’t get on that plane. Instead, as we see in the trailer below, he purposefully puts himself back in the game.
This begs the very important question: Why?
From the looks of things, Player 456 is set on taking the whole thing down. And what exactly does that mean? Saving lives and facing off against the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) to end these deadly games once and for all.
Wi Ha-jun, Gong Yoo, Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Park Sung-hoon, Jo Yu-ri, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Lee Jin-uk, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won and Won Ji-an fill out the cast of season 2. Emmy-winning director Hwang Dong-hyuk is back to helm every episode of the new installment.
Something tells us it’s not going to be easy. Player 456 has insider knowledge and does his best to coach his opponents, but that Red Light, Green Light game takes no prisoners. We have to wonder what other new challenges will be presented in these new episodes.
If Red Light, Green Light is the baseline, Player 456 has his work cut out for him. Let the games begin.
