Palworld is launching on PlayStation 5 today, after releasing in early access on PC and Xbox Series X|S earlier this year. The massive survival-crafting game saw huge numbers at launch and has now made its way to the PS5, despite its creator currently being sued by Nintendo for alleged patent infringement.
Palworld is an open-world survival-crafting game where you gather resources to built up a base of operations. It originally garnered a ton of attention for its monster-catching and battling aspects, which function similarly to Pokemon, although in a very different type of game. Some of the Pals designs were criticized for being very similar to some Pokemon designs, although it appears Nintendo never took legal action on that front.
While the Pals might resemble Pokemon, they do far more than battle in Palworld. They also can gather resources and operate machinery for you, assisting with the survival-crafting aspects of the game. The trailer didn’t mention cross-play for the PlayStation 5 version, but considering the Xbox version only has cross-play with the Windows version and not the Steam version, there is a strong chance it doesn’t have cross-play on PS5 either.
The PlayStation store page for Palworld lists the title at $30, with a PS Plus subscription required to play online with friends. Palworld was announced for PlayStation 5 as part of the latest State of Play, which featured a ton of new announcements. Palworld was a massive hit prior to releasing on PS5, getting 25 million players in its first month.
