A recall has been announced on some raw ground beef products sold at Walmart locations nationwide. According to the Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), this is due to a potential E. coli O157:H7 contamination.
The recalled packs of ground beef were sold in plastic-wrapped trays with establishment number “EST.86P” printed on the back of the label. The front of each affected pack also shows the USDA’s mark of inspection. The specific products and their associated lot codes are as follows:
- 2.25-lbs. “93% LEAN 7% FAT ALL NATURAL LEAN GROUND BEEF,” Lot code: 117
- 1.33-lbs. 4-pack “PRIME RIB BEEF STEAK BURGERS PATTIES,” Lot code: 118
- 2.25-lbs. “85% LEAN 15% FAT ALL NATURAL ANGUS PREMIUM GROUND BEEF,” Lot code: 117
- 2.25-lbs. “80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK,” Lot code: 118
- 1.33-lbs. 4-pack “80% LEAN 20% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF CHUCK PATTIES,” Lot code: 118
- 1.33-lbs. 4-pack “90% LEAN 10% FAT ALL NATURAL GROUND BEEF SIRLOIN PATTIES,” Lot code: 118
No health complications have been reported in connection to this recall so far. E. coli O157:H7 can cause severe illness resulting in symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal cramping, dehydration and more. Serious conditions can occur in people of any age, and the bacteria can be deadly for young children and those age 65 or older. If you believe you may have been exposed, talk to your health care provider as soon as possible.
