The weather might be getting colder, but in the Outer Banks, things are heating up. Netflix’s Outer Banks (OBX) returns this week with the second half of its fourth season. When we last left our fearless crew, the Pogues, they were reeling from major revelations and also in some serious danger. It wouldn’t really be OBX otherwise.
In the first half of season four, we find the Pogues have jumped back into the treasure-hunting business. John B. (Chase Stokes) and his gang, J.J. (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss), Kiara (Madison Bailey), Sarah (Madelyn Cline) and Cleo (Carlacia Grant) are pursuing the treasure of Blackbeard. No mystery or treasure hunt is quite so straightforward for the Pogues, so there are a lot of loose ends to tie up and new adventures to be had.
Here’s everything you need to remember about Outer Banks season four and when you can expect to jump back into the troubled waters with part two.

OBX season 4 recap
Need a recap of season four before the release of part two? We’ve got you covered. If you haven’t watched season four of OBX yet, beware — there are spoilers in the recap below.
In the first five episodes of season four, we find our gang in a rebuilding era. The crew uses the gold they found from the lost city of El Dorado to kick start their new business venture, a bait and tackle shop back on the Outer Banks. Business is tough on the island, which is why the gang agrees to a new employer venture with mysterious millionaire Wes Genrette to locate a talisman from the pirate Blackbeard’s wreck at the bottom of the sea.
The crew does retrieve the trinket — a large gold pendant with gems on a chain — although not without an epic underwater fight scene that almost leaves Kiara and JJ for dead. Success is short-lived as Sheriff Shoupe discovers that Wes Genrette has been murdered, and the Pogues are once again prime suspects. This leaves some of the Pogues to wonder if Genrette’s belief in a curse on his family was true — and whether the trinket can help, as Genrette believed.
Meanwhile, Rafe is exploring a new business deal to develop a piece of land called Goat’s Island, the same island where the Genrette family lives. His business partner, a new character named Hollis (Brianna Brown) and his romantic partner Sophia (Fiona Palomo) both try to sway his decisions.
In the final episodes of part 1, the Pogues are pursued by another group after the trinket. Lightner, the man who attacked Kiara and JJ underwater, kidnaps Cleo, seemingly with the help of Cleo’s old ship captain, Terrence, to force the Pogues to hand over the trinket. Unfortunately, the ransom deadline results in a deadly gunfight, and Terrence gives his life to save Cleo. The group, now with a dead body on their hands, no trinket and mounting debt, is left with no option but to change course and begin a search for an even more priceless artifact: The Blue Crown, last known to be buried with Blackbeard’s men in Charleston, South Carolina.
When we leave the Pogues, the crew is in a cemetery in Charleston, sans JJ and Kiara. Pope and Sarah have gone underground looking for any sign of the Blue Crown, with Cleo and John B. keeping watch and eventually getting into another fight with Lightner’s group. In the last moments we see them, Pope and Sarah are locked underground with water quickly rising, leaving fans wondering if they will make it out in time.
The real cliffhanger of the season is thanks to JJ. While the crew is in Charleston, he hunts down his absentee father and learns that his biological parents are actually Wes Genrette’s deceased daughter, Larissa, and Genrette’s friend Chandler Groff. It’s a huge revelation and cliffhanger that leaves fans with more questions than answers, especially when we see Chandler and Hollis together discussing the business deal for Goat’s Island in the final scenes of the show.
