Nightingale – How To Manage Inventory Storage

As you explore the realms of Nightingale, you’re going to find a lot of loot. With so many materials and craftable items to carry, your character will likely get over-encumbered. Thankfully, there are a few methods to help you carry the load, perhaps even literally. Here’s our guide on how to manage inventory storage in Nightingale.

How to manage inventory storage in Nightingale

You can manage inventory storage by crafting containers or transferring items to an NPC companion. We discuss both methods in their respective sections below. However, bear in mind two things:

• Your character has a carry weight value. Going slightly above this value prevents you from sprinting, and going well past this amount will limit you to walking very slowly.
• Your character has 75 inventory slots. This means you can only carry up to 75 stacks of items irrespective of their weight.

Crafting and using storage containers

Early in the campaign, you’ll gain access to the Angling Basket blueprint. If you have the required materials–10x Plant Fiber–you can open the build menu and plop it down. We suggest placing this storage container in your home realm (i.e. where you built the Estate Cairn) since you’re going to return to your base after each trek anyway.

Shortly thereafter, once you’re able to visit your first Antiquarian Realm, you should find an Essence Trader NPC. The fella has the Weathered Trunk, which can be built if you have 2x Lumber and 2x Ingot. Here’s how you can get these materials:

• Lumber – Process Wood Bundles via the Simple Saw Table.
• Ingots – Process Ores via the Simple Smelter.

Note that these are just some early-game storage blueprints. As you explore various realms, you’ll unlock higher-tier craftable items that let you keep your wares.

Lastly, there’s a “Container Permissions – Survivors” option seen in the bottom-right portion of the panel. If this box is ticked/activated, it will allow NPC followers to collect materials from the container. We advise you not to do this, as this might cause a bit of confusion if NPCs start grabbing materials that you’ve stored for later.

Using companions as storage

Another means of managing inventory storage in Nightingale is by transferring heavier items to an NPC companion. We’ve got all the details for you in our companion recruitment guide, so feel free to read it.

Basically, if you help out a survivor NPC in the Faewild, you can turn them into a follower (you’re limited to just one companion at a given time). This lets you manage their inventory, where you’ll notice that they have 20 slots–this includes their equipped gear, such as weapons/tools and clothing.

We suggest doing the following:

• Press tab to open your inventory.
• Click on the bottom-left “ABC” button until it shows the “Decreasing Weight” option.
• This will sort your items from the heaviest stack to the lightest.
• Transfer the heaviest items to your follower. You can even unequip and discard a couple of clothing pieces that they likely won’t need anyway (if only to retain extra inventory slots).
• NPC followers will not get encumbered regardless of the total weight of the items that they’re carrying. They’ll even teleport to your location just to catch up.

In any case, this is how you manage your inventory storage in Nightingale. Followers certainly make the best type of mule if you want them to lug around a ton of loot.
