Netflix, Prime Video, Max and More: Top New TV Shows and Movies to Watch This Week

This week, the biggest streaming services are dropping some great shows and movies, including old favorites and new originals alike. From adult animation to documentaries and fantasy adventures, there’s plenty to keep you entertained all week long.

On Netflix, season three of Vikings: Valhalla arrives July 11, along with the new animated series Exploding Kittens, based on the card game of the same name, on July 12. Over on Disney Plus, the newest film in the Descendants franchise, Descendants: The Rise of Red, premieres on July 12 (along with the premiere of singalong versions of all three previous movies in the series). 

Tune in to the brand-new documentary Faye on HBO and Max, a feature-length profile of actress Faye Dunaway, or tune in to all of the new originals arriving for Discovery’s Shark Week. (Some of this year’s catchiest titles include The Real Sharknado, out July 12, and Alien Sharks: Ghosts of Japan, premiering July 11.) Also on July 11, Seth Rogen and friends return with Sausage Party: Foodtopia, an R-rated animated series on Prime Video that’s a sequel to his 2016 film Sausage Party.

On Paramount Plus, season two of Kamp Koral: Spongebob’s Under Years debuts 10 new episodes on July 10, and on Hulu, you can stream The Bachelorette’s 21st season premiere on July 9, one day after its primetime premiere on ABC. Read more about the biggest titles of the week below.

Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 (July 11)

The third and final season of Vikings: Valhalla arrives on Netflix this week. The series picks up seven years after season two. The newest season tracks the adventures and challenges facing Freydis (Frida Gustavsson), who now leads Jomsborg, famed Viking Leif Erikson (Sam Corlett) and Prince Harald Sigurdsson (Leo Suter). Season 3 is on Netflix, starting on July 11.

Exploding Kittens (July 12)

The premise of Netflix’s new animated series Exploding Kittens is simple: It’s what happens when God comes to Earth as a housecat (voiced by Tom Ellis) and discovers that the cat next door is his arch nemesis, the Antichrist (Sasheer Zamata). The show’s co-creator, Matthew Inman, also created the card game that inspired the series, and the show’s executive producers include Mike Judge and Greg Daniels. To paraphrase Netflix, the kittens explode on July 12.

Descendants: The Rise of Red (July 12)

Disney’s smash hit franchise The Descendants is back this week with a new original movie musical, Descendants: The Rise of Red, which will debut on Disney Plus July 12. The film is loaded with new songs (an original soundtrack drops the same day as the film), and stars Brandy, Rita Ora, Kylie Cantrall and Malia Baker.

The HBO original documentary Faye is a portrait of legendary actress Faye Dunaway, star of Bonnie and Clyde, Chinatown and Network, for which she won an Oscar. Dunaway reflects on her life and career through intimate interviews and archival footage. Fay premieres on HBO and Max on Saturday, July 13.

The Serpent Queen season 2 (July 12)

Minnie Driver is leaning into some bold and fun TV roles lately, including turns on Starstruck and Our Flag Means Death. Now she’s bringing that big queen energy to season two of the Starz series The Serpent Queen. The show stars Samantha Morton as the titular Serpent Queen, Catherine de Medici of France, Isobel Jesper Jones as Edith and Driver as Queen Elizabeth I. The new season premieres on July 12.

Sausage Party: Foodtopia (July 11)

Sausage Party: Foodtopia is a new adult animated series that is a sequel to the 2016 film Sausage Party, which was co-written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. In the series, the characters from the film, including Frank (Rogen), Brenda Bunson (Kristen Wiig), Barry (Michael Cera) and Kareem Abdul Lavash (David Krumholtz), create a new land they’ve dubbed Foodtopia, promising them safety from human consumption. But they eventually need humanity’s help after a flood hits their new home. The series consists of eight episodes out on July 11.
