Nationwide E. Coli Outbreak Linked to Ground Beef

Estimated read time 1 min read

There’s an active recall on approximately 167,277 pounds of ground beef products sold nationwide, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). This is following an E. coli outbreak linked to this recall.

The recalled beef was sold in restaurants nationwide and includes various types of ground beef patties used for burgers. According to the FSIS report, there have been 15 reported cases of illness from E. coli in Minnesota. While illnesses are only in one state so far, the recalled products were distributed nationwide.

Common symptoms of E. coli infection include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, low-grade fever and stomach cramps. E. coli infection can be especially serious for those immunocompromised, age 65 or older or for young children. Signs may become noticeable between 2 and 8 days after exposure to the bacteria.

If you have eaten a burger at a restaurant recently and are experiencing any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider immediately. For questions about this recall, contact Don Tanner, company representative at 248-762-1533.
