Boxing legend Mike Tyson and YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul will have a match in July that will be streamed live exclusively on Netflix, according to a press release from the streamer on Thursday. The Tyson vs. Paul fight is set for July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. If the recent fights of both boxers are an indicator, don’t expect much fireworks in this brawl.
Since 2018, Paul has been setting up boxing matches with other YouTubers, MMA fighters, and other boxers who have either already retired or don’t have much of a career. To his credit, the YouTuber has several knockouts in his 9-1 professional career. His one loss was a split decision to Tommy Fury, half-brother of boxing champ Tyson Fury, last year. These fights have been proven to be lucrative for Paul who has made millions off most of his matches.
Tyson, on the other hand, has been somewhat chilled out in recent years. The former champ started his own cannabis company in 2021. Don’t get it twisted, the 57-year-old boxer still has some moves. Tyson had an exhibition fight with former champ Roy Jones Jr. in 2020, and he showed that he still can be nimble. That fight ended in a draw, and Tyson admitted in 2022 how he took magic mushrooms before the match.
Netflix appears to be making big strides into live sports as of late. In January, the streamer signed a deal with the WWE to be the new home for its Monday Night Raw starting in 2025. Netflix had its first live sporting event last year with the Netflix Cup which featured Formula 1 drivers playing golf with PGA pros.
Will Netflix have a hit on its hands if Paul gets knocked into next week? Probably, but don’t expect Tyson to go all out on the YouTuber, no matter how much you wish he would.
