Margarine Recalled Across Canada Due to Mold in Product

There is an active recall on margarine sold across Canada, according to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). This is due to mold found in the products.

The brand affected by this recall is PC Blue Menu, specifically their Original Margarine (sold in 907-gram and 1.81-kilogram tubs) and their Margarine with Olive Oil (907-gram tubs) products. The following UPC codes are listed on the recalled margarine:

• Original Margarine (907-gram): 0 60383 77867 5
• Original Margarine (1.81-kilogram): 0 60383 77868 2
• Margarine with Olive Oil: 0 60383 77938 2

The recalled spreads were sold nationwide at Canadian retail locations. If your margarine matches one of the above recalled information, it may be contaminated with mold. Throw it away immediately or return it to its place of purchase.

While the CFIA notes that this microbial contamination is “non-harmful,” food with mold growth can cause illness due to the formation of mycotoxins, which is a poisonous substance. It is best to avoid mold in food, and be sure to clean any surfaces that may have been infected with mold after handling.
