Justin Roiland’s Rick And Morty Voiceovers Were Scrubbed From MultiVersus

After nearly a year since the end of its open beta, a few things have changed in MultiVersus beyond the new characters. Justin Roiland, the co-creator of Rick and Morty and the original voice of both characters, has been removed from the game and all of his lines have been rerecorded.

Via PC Gamer, Roiland’s replacements on Rick and Morty, Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden, have taken over their leading roles in MultiVersus as well. As noted in the report, Roiland’s original recordings for the game were comprised of snippets of dialogue from the show. But the new build of the game features original voice work by both Cardoni and Beldon as Rick and Morty, respectively.

In early 2023, word broke that Roiland was charged with felony domestic battery and felony false imprisonment. Subsequently, Adult Swim and Hulu parted ways with Roiland on his shows, Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites. Roiland also left his gaming studio, Squanch Games, over the scandal.

By March 2023, the charges against Roiland were dropped over insufficient evidence, and he celebrated the news by declaring his intention to rebuild his reputation. But fresh allegations arose in fall 2023 over Roiland engaging in sexually inappropriate contact with underage fans. Since then, no charges have been filed, nor has Roiland made any additional comment on the situation.
