A rumor making the rounds that claims Elizabeth Debicki could take over for Gal Gadot and become the next Wonder Woman has been debunked by DC Studios co-head James Gunn.
Gunn said on social media (via GamesRadar) that he has “never even had this thought.” Gunn and Debicki worked together on the Guardians of the Galaxy film series in which Debicki played Ayesha. Gunn said he has enjoyed his time working with Debicki, but the Wonder Woman rumor is not true.
According to an October 2023 report from Variety, Gadot will not come back to play Wonder Woman again, as Gunn is kickstarting a new DC roster. This report came just a few months after Gadot said she was working with Gunn on a new Wonder Woman film that she would star in.
Gunn and Peter Safran took over as the new co-heads of DC Studios in 2023. One of the first projects to come under the new leadership is Superman (formerly known as Superman Legacy), which releases in 2025 featuring David Corenswet as Superman.
It remains to be seen who will play Wonder Woman in the DC universe going forward. Beyond film, the developers of Shadow of Mordor are making a new Wonder Woman game.
