I’ve Seen These Beautiful Table Knives in Multiple High-End Restaurants and Was Shocked to Find Them at Amazon for Only $10 Each

I’ve been told that I’m fun to go out to eat with, but also that I can be really annoying. I’m the person who, when I see plates I love, lifts them up to see what’s printed on the bottom. I squint at the typeface underneath cool wine glasses and ask servers if they know where the pasta bowls came from. In short, when I encounter something awesome, I simply must know more.

That’s how, on a recent trip to New York City, I discovered my new favorite table knife, the Opinel No. 125. Out of around 15 restaurants and bars I visited in a matter of three days, I noticed the exact same knife on my table at no less than three establishments — first at Michelin-starred restaurant and wine bar The Four Horsemen, then at Wildair, and finally at a third location that I can’t recall. I wasn’t even in the market for new knives, but these were so striking that I couldn’t help but note them each time. Of course, I’ve long been aware of the French brand Opinel, and I’ve used its paring and pocket knives before, but discovering these colorful No. 125 table knives was truly a revelation for me.

It’s easy to see why: These knives are stunning. They comprise a sharp, stainless steel blade and varnished Hornbeam wood (made from French trees, obviously). The 125s come in boxes of four: The “Pop” iteration has more vibrant colors, while the “Countryside” features more rustic tones. And having used them on many courses in multiple restaurants now, I can confirm that they hold up super well with everything from steak, yellowfin tuna, and monkfish liver to pommes darphin and salad (as well as probably anything else you could throw at them). I’m personally a big fan of more muted hues, so I was thrilled to find that the Countryside set is actually on sale for only $40 right now, clocking in at a cool $10 per knife.

Whether you’re looking to diversify your own flatware set or serve up a fun gift for the steak enthusiast in your life (you know, like someone who might celebrate Father’s Day), the fact that you can score these magnificent, famous restaurant-approved knives at such a low cost is pretty exciting.
