It Turns Out Best Buy Will Have At Least One 4K Blu-Ray Release This Year

Having first hit theaters in 1974, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre is gearing up to celebrate its 50th anniversary. As part of the festivities, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre video game–which launched last year–is getting a special steelbook edition at Best Buy. It arrives on October 25 and preorders are now open. The collection is bound to be a hot commodity, so reserving a copy is a great way to ensure it’s in your game room later this year.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about this release is that it comes with a 4K Blu-ray version of the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre film. Best Buy stopped carrying Blu-rays this year, which is rather unfortunate considering how many cool exclusive editions you could find at the retailer. But hey, at least you’ll be able to find one 4K Blu-ray at Best Buy this year.

Several other goodies are included in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 50th Anniversary Steelbook Collector’s Edition. Your $100 investment gets you the physical game for PS5 or Xbox Series X, a premium steelbook case, a series of trading cards, and heaps of in-game cosmetics. Plus the 4K Blu-ray, of course.

If you’re not interested in the game or any of the bonus content, you can instead pick up The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K Steelbook for $35 (down from $55) at Amazon. This is essentially the same version of the film bundled in with the above video game preorder, though you’re getting a slightly less appealing steelbook design. Don’t care about the steelbook? Then pick up the standard version of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre 4K UHD for $26 (down from $45).

Our Texas Chain Saw Massacre review gave the game an impressive 9/10, praising it for its intricate map design and rewarding gameplay that pushes you to experiment with your play style.

“The Texas Chain Saw Massacre plays, looks, and sounds like its team holds the source material in the highest regard,” wrote critic Mark Delaney. “Faithfully transposing the film’s signature terror into a modern multiplayer game is a feat on both ends. As one of the year’s scariest and best-designed experiences, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre has reset the bar for multiplayer horror games.”
