Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is a new IP from Uncharted and The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog, and while it won’t release until 2027 at the soonest, the game is in a playable state already and feeling “really good,” according to director Neil Druckmann.

He told IGN, “We are playing it at the office and it’s incredible. It’s really good.”

He added: “I’m so excited to finally put gameplay out into the world and show people about it, because we just showed you the very, very, very tip on the iceberg. The game goes pretty deep beyond that.”

Druckmann is referring to the game’s announcement trailer at The Game Awards in December 2024. The trailer (above) shows off some of the game’s characters and cuts off just as things get brewing with an intense fight.

Intergalactic is a game “about faith and religion” that takes place around 2,000 years in the future in a universe that diverged from our own in the 1980s.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is in development for PS5 but does not have a release window at this time. Druckmann previously admitted that Naughty Dog “still have a ways to go” in developing the game and he doesn’t have a clear idea of the final form Intergalactic will take just yet.

The game features a number of celebrities in starring roles, including Tati Gabrielle as the main character Jordan, along with Kumail Nanjiani, Ashley Scott, and Tony Dalton.

Naughty Dog has at least one other single-player game in development right now, and while some expected it to be The Last of Us 3, that may not be the case.
