After launching to mixed reviews earlier this year, Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded developer XR Games has reportedly laid off nearly all of its staff. In a LinkedIn post by the former head of production at XR Games, it’s claimed that 72 people from the studio’s 84-person workforce were let go.

“This goes beyond restructuring,” the former staff member wrote (via Road to VR and Eurogamer). “I’ll keep my thoughts and observations to myself. Today, my focus is on helping those affected.”

Multiple roles have reportedly been affected across the studio, although XR Games has not officially confirmed that it has carried out this round of layoffs. If the studio is down to just 12 people, this likely doesn’t bode well for its upcoming games, Starship Troopers: Continuum and Zombie Army VR.

While it’s not listed on GameSpot’s sister site Metacritic, a quick glance at the reviews for Hitman 3 VR: Reloaded have not done the game any favors. Several critics have noted that it’s a poor translation of the excellent PC and console game, while technical issues hamper its appeal further. Shortly after it was released last month, XR Games did note that it was addressing player feedback with planned patches.

Another high-profile VR game will launch on October 22 in the form of Batman: Arkham Shadow. Exclusive to Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S headsets, this new Dark Knight adventure is set between the events of Arkham Origins and Arkham Asylum, and early impressions have been positive so far.
