During Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Robert Downey Jr. officially confirmed his return to the MCU. Instead of playing Tony Stark/Iron Man again, Downey will step into the role of Victor von Doom aka Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The actor was well-compensated for his first run in the MCU, which is estimated to have earned him $500 million to $600 million. But Downey’s new paycheck is reportedly for an extremely sizable amount of money.

According to Variety, Downey is making “considerably more” than $80 million for the two films, with additional incentives if Doomsday and Secret Wars reach certain box-office benchmarks. Downey is also said to be getting access to a private jet, as well as a dedicated security team, and a “trailer encampment.”

Anthony and Joe Russo, who are returning to the MCU for Doomsday and Secret Wars, will also reportedly receive significant raises for directing the two films. The Russos will receive $40 million per movie, with additional box-office incentives that will kick in if the two films reach $750 million and $1 billion worldwide. However, the report said that Russos will not get any back-end percentage from the movies under the the deal.

The two new Avengers movies will begin filming in London in the second quarter of 2025. Avengers: Doomsday will arrive in theaters on May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following it on May 7, 2027.
