Star Wars fans can save big on the rarely discounted R2-D2 Lego display model at Walmart. Normally $240, the 2,314-piece R2-D2 Lego Star Wars building set is on sale for $195 for a limited time. It’s unclear when Walmart’s promotion ends, but considering this particular R2-D2 Lego set is almost always out of stock at major retailers and the Lego Store–you can only find it at Walmart–we’d expect this to sell out before Walmart raises the price back to $240. Walmart has also slashed 30% from the price of the 2,319-piece Chewbacca Lego set, dropping it from $200 to only $139. These deals are part of a wider Lego sale at Walmart that’s definitely worth checking out while you can.

Released as part of Lucasfilm’s 50th Anniversary celebration in 2021, this R2-D2 is a black-box Star Wars Lego set, which means it’s more of a display model and is geared toward adults.
When complete, the 2,314-piece R2-D2 Lego model measures 12.5 x 7.5 x 6 inches, so while it’s not an extremely large set in terms of overall space, it’s an intricate build with many little flourishes and features that make it stand out as a display piece. This includes interactive components pulled from the movies: rotating head, retractable leg, adjustable periscope, and a front hatch that opens and extends outward. There’s also a secret storage compartment for Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber.
This R2-D2 model also comes with a display plaque with details about the droid, an R2-D2 minifigure, and a Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary stand for the minifigure. For collectors out there, it’s worth noting that this R2-D2 model is the only Lego set with the Lucasfilm 50th Anniversary brick. And as mentioned, the set is out of stock more often than not–it’s unavailable at any other retailer, including the Lego Store, at the moment–so Walmart’s $45 discount probably won’t stick around for long.
Lego released a smaller, 1,050-piece R2-D2 buildable figure earlier this year for $100. The newer R2-D2 is recommended for kids ages 10 and up, and while it still looks great, the build process is not nearly as elaborate as the the larger R2-D2.
$139 (was $200)
Lego Chewbacca was released in 2023 for the May the Fourth festivities and has almost exactly the same number of pieces as the R2-D2 above. The completed 2,319-piece Chewbacca stands 18 inches tall. Along with the figure, you’ll build his Bowcaster Rifle and bandolier, a small display stand, and an informational plaque with a Chewbacca minifigure.
Chewbacca was available for $140-$145 last month during various Black Friday sales, but those deals never stuck around for long. Amazon sold out of this set at $145 a few weeks ago and it remains out of stock today. If you missed out on those deals, now you have the chance to get this awesome display model for its new all-time low price at Walmart.
If you’re looking for a Lego Star Wars droid set for a young Star Wars fan, Target is offering a $20 discount on the Creative Play Droid Builder, a four-pack of customizable droids that released earlier this year. Normally $100, you can get this Target-exclusive, 1,186-piece kit for only $80. It comes with R2-D2 and three other Star Wars droids as well as a bunch of swappable accessories. Mustachioed R2-D2 can wear a cowboy hat and a bow tie.
R2-D2 and Chewbacca are the largest Star Wars Lego sets on sale at Walmart, but the retailer is also giving away Walmart Cash (gift cards) with the purchase of a bunch of different Lego sets. Star Wars is prominently featured in the limited-time promotion that ends December 20. The Yavin 4 Rebel Base Lego set comes with the most Walmart Cash, but our favorite deals are the Captain Rex and Clone Commander Cody Helmets. These are discounted and they come with $12 Walmart Cash. If you want both, you will most likely need to buy them in separate transactions.
