Director Park Chan-Wook’s cult-classic film, Oldboy, recently got an amazing special-edition box set release, packing in hours of extra content alongside a 4K Blu-ray version of the film. Available at Amazon, this version of the film has been discounted from $76 to $52.69, which is a great price for fans looking to add the film to their collection.
While Oldboy is notorious for its brutal action scenes and thematic content, it’s also regarded as one of the best films ever made. Of particular note is the movie’s fight scene choreography, including a four-minute hallway brawl shot in one continuous take.
For the extras, this 4K restoration includes a 68-page casebound book, essays by esteemed writers, collector’s cards, several audio commentary tracks, and numerous looks behind the scenes at how Oldboy was made. Music videos, original release trailers, and a lengthy Q&A session with the director Park Chan-Wook and the cast round out a comprehensive collection of extras on this Blu-ray.
If you’re looking for more deals on action movies, the 4K Blu-ray edition of The Raid: Redemption is on sale for $36.60 at Amazon (was $46). This version of the film features a completely new color-grade that was supervised by director Gareth Evans, plus the option to watch with either the international release’s score by Mike Shinoda and Joe Trapanese, or the Indonesian version’s score by composers Aria Prayogi and Fajar Yuskemal.
