Most of us in the States can always watch Super Bowl LIX for free if we have a local Fox station. Now, cord-cutters can watch the game for free as well on the relatively obscure Tubi streaming service.
This is happening because Fox owns Tubi. This will be the first time the Super Bowl will be streamed at no cost, alongside its traditional over-the-air antenna broadcasts. Tubi is a low-end service without multiple screens or any DVR functionality. It will also only show the game on low-end 720p HDTV.

Super Bowl LIX, scheduled for February 9, 2025, will be broadcast from the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans. Tubu will show more than the big game. Starting at 3:30 PM ET, fans can tune into the “Tubi Red Carpet at Super Bowl LIX,” a special pre-game show hosted by Olivia Culpo. I don’t think of the Super Bowl as a red-carpet kind of event. If you like that kind of thing, this segment will offer a unique glimpse into the celebrity, fashion, and cultural aspects surrounding America’s premier sporting event.
Tubi includes the NFL Channel. This station will begin its “Countdown to the Super Bowl” on January 28 for those eager to immerse themselves in the Super Bowl atmosphere. This will feature various content, including historical Super Bowl footage, iconic halftime shows, and NFL analysis, providing fans with a comprehensive lead-up to the main event.
Why is Fox doing this? It’s all part of Fox’s broader strategy to promote Tubi, which has seen remarkable growth since Fox acquired it in 2020. With 97 million monthly active users, Tubi has become the second most popular free streaming application after Roku Channel. By offering the Super Bowl on it, Fox aims to expand Tubi’s reach further and appeal to a younger, cord-cutting audience.
Beyond the Super Bowl, Tubi has one of the biggest video libraries of the free streaming services, with over 45,000 titles. On it, you’ll find movies from Lionsgate, MGM, Paramount Pictures, and Starz Digital’s libraries. Recent popular selections include Anna, Stars Fell on Alabama, Queen of Hearts, and all the Twilight movies. It also offers over 250 live channels.

Tubi doesn’t have the major live channels, so you can’t use it as a replacement for YouTube TV or the like, but it does offer a good selection of lesser-known channels and channels dedicated to particular shows, such as The Carol Burnett Show, Midsomer Murders, and my favorite: Mystery Science-Fiction 3000.
If you register, which I recommend, you can resume play from where you stopped to let in the cat or grab a snack. For a free service where you often don’t have control over the stream, that’s a nice benefit.
You may want to grab Tubi to watch the Super Bowl for free, but I recommend you watch before and after the game, too. I think you’ll like it a lot.
