Goldfish is giving us all something to look forward to next month.
In late August, the brand announced the grand return of its Goldfish Hello Kitty Strawberry Shortcake Flavored Grahams, which it says were the fastest-selling limited-time offering in its brand history the last time it offered the flavor.
“Despite her 50-year legacy, Hello Kitty is still finding new ways to surprise us all, as shown through the recent revelation that Hello Kitty is not a cat but a little girl — sending the internet into a frenzy and increasing searches by 70%,” Goldfish explained in a statement about why it wanted to bring back the flavor. “Goldfish’s limited-time release comes just in time to tap into the hot online conversation.”
If you weren’t fortunate enough to get your hands on this flavor and try it for yourself the last time it was released, Goldfish explained that they “are inspired by one of Hello Kitty’s favorite foods, strawberry shortcake,” and come with “notes of vanilla and a hint of sweetness in each bite.”
And as a little bonus, fans will find more than just fish in these special bags. The treat comes in two shapes: fish and mini Hello Kitty icons. Though the latter may be too cute to nibble.
Like last time, this will also be an extremely limited-time offering. The flavor will be available in September at retailers nationwide for a suggested retail price of $3.69 per 6.1-ounce bag (which also comes in a bright red color with that unmistakable Hello Kitty cartoon on the packaging). And seriously, if you want a bag, you better be ready to act fast. According to Goldfish, the last round sold out in 90 minutes. And who knows when they’ll come back again — though you can likely rest assured other limited-time flavors will come our way again soon.
In 2021, Food & Wine tested 21 flavors of Goldfish to definitively rank all of the flavors we could get our hands on. At the time, plain and simple Chedder came out on top, with staffers saying it’s “What we talk about when we talk about Goldfish Crackers” and the “best snack ever, hands down.”
Still, Hello Kitty wasn’t in the mix yet, so perhaps it’s time we taste-tested again …
