Gatorade Flavor Mashups Blend 2 Fan-Favorite Flavors in a Single Bottle

Decision fatigue is real — especially at the grocery store.

On the days when it feels too difficult to choose between hydration options, you might as well just combine the two.

Gatorade is remixing four of its top flavors in a brand-new grocery launch, as the brand revealed this week. Dubbed Gatorade Flavor Mashups, these drinks consolidate fans’ favorite flavors (Lemon Lime, Orange, Cool Blue, and Fruit Punch) into a bottled format — no mixing required. Indecisive folks can start rejoicing this week as these two new beverages roll out to retailers nationwide.

“For years, we’ve heard how passionate consumers are about their favorite Gatorade flavors. ‘The best’ Gatorade flavor has long been a heated debate,” head of consumer engagement Emily Boido tells Food & Wine. “As we celebrate our 60th anniversary and decades as the world’s most superior sports drink, we wanted to innovate to bring consumers’ favorite flavors together in an unexpected way.”

One of the Gatorade Flavor Mashups blends Cool Blue and Fruit Punch, while the other mixes Lemon Lime and Orange. (That is, if you identify Gatorade flavors by their actual names instead of their neon colors). They will be available in single 28-ounce bottles and 20-count cases, according to the brand. Whether it’s your go-to for workouts, sick days, or a tried-and-true hangover remedy, Gatorade claims it aims to satisfy your thirst — and creativity — for its most recognizable flavors.

For a quick history lesson, Gatorade was developed in 1965 by a team of researchers at the University of Florida College of Medicine. Introduced as a solution to address depleted electrolytes in the namesake Florida Gators football players, its early years are closely intertwined with college athletics. As the PepsiCo-owned brand enters its sixth decade fieldside, however, Boido hints that it’s seeking new ways to enhance its electrolyte offerings.

“We are bringing the icons together — Lemon Lime–Orange and Cool Blue–Fruit Punch — to provide consumers with a new experience while celebrating our heritage,” she said.

Rumors about the new beverage have been circulating online (mostly on the dedicated Gatorade subreddit) as folks discover the new bottles at local retailers and online. Initially, this launch was set to reach stores in mid-April, according to the brand, but it seems like Gatorade Flavor Mashups are already rolling out to retailers nationwide. Target recently listed 28-ounce bottles of Lemon Lime–Orange for $2.29 on its website, indicating they will arrive on March 30. We’ve also noticed the Cool Blue–Fruit Punch flavor on Walmart’s website for less than $1.75, while Rite Aid has also listed 28-ounce versions of the new drink.

Looks like there’s a new dynamic duo in your future.
